When a customer disputes a charge with their bank and forces a refund, reversing a transaction the affiliate may have already been paid on. High chargeback rates hurt the advertiser's payment processing and often trigger clawbacks, holds or shaving on the affiliate side. Common in rebill, crypto and low-trust verticals, so buyers watch it as a traffic-quality signal.
