Compression
File weightShrinking a file by throwing out data the eye is least likely to miss. Lossy formats like JPG and H.264 discard detail for a much smaller size; lossless formats like PNG keep every pixel but stay heavy. Push it too far and you get visible artifacts — blocking, banding, muddy edges.
Example
To fit a hero image under the weight limit, save it as JPG at quality 70 instead of a 4 MB PNG.
